Boldface Dec. 16: A.D. Amorosi rounds up the local gossip

If 2014 was slow filming in Philly, things are suddenly ramping up at year’s end for movie and television production. “Fruitvale Station” director/writer Ryan Coogler has been through Philly with actor Michael B. Jordan to start shooting “Creed,” the next sequel in the “Rocky” franchise. Luis Guzman and Sylvester Stallone will also appear.

​​Food Network star chef Robert Irvine of “Restaurant: Impossible” was busy in town too, not eating or cooking but working out and filming his upcoming program “Fitness: Impossible.” Irvine’s Philly-based brand manager Justin Leonard is in on the fun. “Fitness: Impossible” has been filming since September and airs early 2015 on the Food Network.

The long-vacant property at East Passyunk and Broad finally gets a tenant when Luke Palladino unveils Palladino’s this Thursday. The seasonal Italian steak-and-seafood joint is the Jersey Shore chef’s first Philly restaurant.

Philly men rarely get their fashion due. Thankfully, longtime local men’s clothier Wayne Glassman is opening his new venture, Wayne Edwards Workshop boutique on the second floor of 1710 Sansom. Along with men’s ready-to-wear items, the Workshop’s focus is fashion-forward custom-made suits and shirts.

Meanwhile, Safian & Rudolph Jewelers celebrated the grand re-opening of their expanded diamond-filled showroom at 7th and Sansom Thursday with lots of gems and an appearance from Fox29’s Mike Jerrick who purchased his engagement ring there for his girlfriend, Shelda. The pair got engaged at NYC’s Grand Central Station on Saturday. “Mike came to meet with me and said he really wanted to have a ring put together within a day so he could propose on 12/13/14.” says S&F’s Rich Goldberg.

One-time “Top Chef” competitor Jason Cichonski’s Old City eatery The Gaslight hooks up with his neighbors, brothersEric and Ryan Berley from Franklin Fountain, for a $45 four-course dinner on Dec. 18 pairing Cichonski’s casual cuisine with the Berleys’ sipping chocolates.

Jingle Ball 2014’s stars has a good time in Philly when they weren’t on stage at the Wells Fargo Center. Meghan Trainor ran around the Hotel Monaco, Nick Jonas ate at Cantina Los Cabalitos, and Jessie J was spotted around town in a Phillies T-shirt.

NRG Home held a “Gingerbread Contest” at LOVE Park’s Christmas Village on Friday with American Red Cross, Red Paw Emergency Relief Team,HopeWorks Camden and Heritage Conservancy creating models of energy efficient, holiday decorative homes. Each non-profit received $1,000 with the winner, Red Paw, nabbing an additional $1,000. NBC10’s Keith Jones, CBS3’s Syma Chowdhry and Fox29’s Caitlin Roth joined in.
