You can experience miracles now

One simple weekly act can boost happiness, according to one researcher. Happiness is a choice you make, Gabby Bernstein says.

Whenever I’m asked about the greatest lesson I’ve learned, my response is: Happiness is a choice I make. It’s very easy to look for happiness outside ourselves: in a relationship, a dream job or the perfect body weight. When we chase happiness externally, we’re simply looking for a higher power in all the wrong places.

The outside search is based on false projections we place on the world. These projections build up a wall against true happiness, which lies within us. This first exercise will help you understand how nothing “out there” can save you from the conflict that resides within. You must develop a rich inner life to enjoy life altogether.

Each time we make this shift and choose happiness, we experience a miracle. Our mind shifts from fearful delusions and reconnects to our truth, which is love. Creating these shifts requires a dedicated commitment to choosing love.

To begin your commitment to new perceptions, start by paying attention to attack thoughts toward yourself and others. These negative thoughts are particularly dangerous because they can be so subtle and insidious that we might not even realize how much they’ve taken over our minds and stressed us out. But as fiendish as they are, they’re surprisingly easy to let go of. All it takes is an ordinary rubber band. Follow this tool from my new book, “Miracles Now,” and get into the practice of shifting your thoughts.

This is a simple exercise for shifting your thoughts back to peace. Wear a rubber band on your wrist. Each time you notice a negative thought arise, promptly flick the rubber band against your arm. Does this seem jarring? Good! It’s exactly what you need to literally snap yourself out of your unconscious thought.

Once you’ve snapped out of the destructive cycle, it’s time to clean up the thoughts. Upon snapping the rubber band take a long, deep breath and change the thought to, “I choose to release fear now. I choose peace instead.”

This tool will help you become more aware of how your thoughts stress you out and get you into the habit of choosing a new perspective.

The more you retrain yourself to choose happiness over fear, the more blissful you will be.
