An American Airlines flight from Philadelphia International Airport destined for Boston was delayed Sunday morning after a security breach that allowed two people to gain unauthorized access to the plane, airline officials said.

A passenger told WCVB Boston that the captain of American Airlines Flight 1655 said the jetway door was left unlocked overnight. A non-English speaking couple walked onto the plane around 6 a.m. and stowed their luggage.

The flight was scheduled to depart Philadelphia at 8 a.m., but airline officials told 6ABCthat out of safety, they would switch out aircrafts:

“Two passengers gained unauthorized access to one of our aircrafts earlier this morning. Out of an abundance of caution, we are utilizing a different aircraft for the flight to Boston. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”

Foul play is not suspected, and the entry appears to have been an accident, according to6ABC. Officials said that Philadelphia International Airport is responsible for making sure the jetway is locked.

The airport said its investigating the incident.

Flight 1655 took off from Philly just after 11 a.m., three hours after its scheduled departure.
