Pair arrested in Virginia for Orange home invasion that left 95-year-old dead

Pair arrested in Virginia for Orange home invasion that left 95-year-old dead

Two suspects connected to a home invasion and murder of an elderly man in Orange last week were recently arrested in Virginia, authorities said.

Joshua Hart, 23, and Brittany Smith, 27, are being held without bail, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s office, after the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Department in Virginia arrested the two.

Massachusetts State Police have obtained arrest warrentscharging Hart and Smith — both most recently of Athol — with murder, attempted murder, home invasion, armed robbery, larceny and conspiracy.

Officials said that the victims’ stolen vehicle was recovered in another Virginia location.

The home invasion resulted inthe murder of a 95-year-old man and injury to his 77-year-old wife.The incident occurred at 581 East River St. in Orange on Oct. 5.

Hart and Smith are scheduled to be arraigned in Virginia on Tuesday. They could be back in Massachusetts as early as Thursday, according to the DA’s office.
