BPD promises ‘thorough investigation’ after 7-year-old found dead at Carson Beach

Authorities are promising an extensive investigation into the death of a 7-year-old boy who went missing from a city-run day camp and was subsequently found dead in the water near Carson Beach.

Around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Kyzr Willis went missing from the day camp he was attending at Curley Community Center near Carson Beach in South Boston, NECN reported. His body was found about five hours later.

“We found the young boy in the water, unfortunately, and he was declared deceased,” NECN, in a separate report, quoted Police Commissioner William Evans, who also said that Willis had left the area around the community center on foot for unknown reasons.

“This is the worst part of our job, dealing with a tragic death like this, and again, we’ll conduct a thorough investigation, but right now let’s all pray for the family,” Evans was quoted byFox25.

Police have not yet given details on how Willis managed to remain unnoticed by staff members as he walked away from the Curley Community Center day camp, which is run by the Boston Centers for Youth and Families, theBoston Globeadded.

“I will be working closely with Boston Centers for Youth and Families and the Boston Police Department until we learn exactly what happened,” Mayor Marty Walsh said in a statement quoted by Fox25. “My heart is broken for the Willis family, and my thoughts and prayers will be with them.”
