Broadway in Boston announces new season of shows

Broadway in Boston has announced their 2015-2015 season of shows, and if there are two themes, they’re “kid-friendly” and “women on a mission.” Well, except for the first show. The season gets started with a returning favorite, as “The Book of Mormon” comes back to the Colonial Theatre from Sept. 1 to Oct. 11. Over at the Boston Opera House, the Rodgers & Hammerstein “Cinderella” will take over from Sept. 29 to Oct. 11.

Carole King fans will be happy to know that “Beautiful,” the musical based on her early experiences as a songwriter, will head to the Boston Opera House from Nov. 3 to 15, before things get a bit Disney from Jan. 6-10, for a brief run at the Opera House for Beauty and the Beast.

The Opera House’s next show might look a little familiar: “Pippin” will be there from Feb. 2 to 14. And yes, that’s the Diane Paulus version that got its start at A.R.T., thus proving that it is possible to send a show to Broadway from Boston and get it back again. Pauluspromises, “I made even more changes for the tour,” so it may look a little different from the version you caught in Cambridge.

From March 29 to April 10, “The Sound of Music” hits the Boston Opera House, and from June 14 to 26, you can watch children outsmart their evil elders in “Matilda the Musical.” The Idina Menzel hit “If/Then” will be at the Opera House from July 5 to 17, so if you’re a woman in your 30s reconsidering your life choices, head on down. Sadly, Menzel is presumably not traveling with the show, but we’re sure whoever takes over from her will still help you through your early midlife crisis.
