Dorchester man wanted in Bridgewater burned body death captured

The suspect in the death of a New Jersey woman whose body was found burning along railroad tracks in Bridgewater has been caught.

Fernando Owens, 43, of Dorchester, was arrested Tuesday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and returned to the United States on Thursday, according to WCVB.

Owens has been charged with murder in connection with the Nov. 3 death of Ashley Bortner, the Associated Press reported.

Bortner, 29, was found near MBTA tracks with over 70 percent of her body burned. She had also been gagged and bound, and an electrical cord was around her neck, police said.

Julian Squires, 41, and Shannon Squires, 39, were both indicted on March 8 on charges of murder and aggravated kidnapping in the death, WCVB added.

Investigators believethat Owens was acquainted with Bortnerand that he thoughtshe had something to do with the recent death of his son.

Owens has yet to be returned to Massachusetts for arraignment.
