An Old Colony commuter rail train slammed into a tractor trailer Wednesday morning in Braintree just moments before the truckdriver jumped from his rig.

Herman Childs-Alan Duram told The Boston Globe that he heard the train’s dinging and made the quick decision to hop out. The truck had been stuck on the tracks at the West Street railroad crossing.

“It sounded like an explosion, a bomb… Boom!” Duram told the Globe.

There were about 60 passengers on the train, which was headed outbound on the Kingston/Plymouth line, said Joe Pesaturo, a spokesman for the MBTA, the Globe reported.

Five people on the train reported minor injuries.

Duram had just made a delivery to Frito-Lay when his wheels got stuck in the snow, he said. Another driver who had tried to help him cross the tracks alerted him to the oncoming train.

“I feel miserable about this. There’s people on that train that could have been injured,” he said.
