Naming the 6th Fast & Furious movie

While most of the world is reeling from the news of Osama Bin Laden’s death, Hollywood is trying to understand something equally shocking: "Fast Five," the fifth installment of "The Fast and the Furious" franchise, had the biggest box office opening of the year this weekend, raking in $140 million dollars worldwide.

Whenever something like this happens, you can be certain of a two things: 1. There will be a sequel. 2. Most studios will try to produce a knock-off imitation within the year. There’s a great piece in today’s L.A. Times that takes a look at the many ways in which "Fast Five"’s performance this weekend goes against all conventional wisdom when it comes to the formula of a guaranteed blockbuster. This includes the fact that the franchise contains no top stars and that it’s changed its name with each installment:

1. "The Fast and the Furious"
2. "2 Fast 2 Furious"
3. "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift"
4. "Fast and Furious"
5. "Fast Five"

So if we look at the pattern here, "Fast" has to be worked into the sequel’s title in some way. But these people like to play with our expectations, so maybe "Fast" will be dropped and "Furious" will be the signifier. Personally, I would like to see something along the lines of "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift", which is inexplicably hilarious. In fact, the fifth installment has also been known as "Fast and Furious 5: Rio Heist."

Nate Jones, our web editor, had a few ideas for the names for the sequel:

"Fast and Spurious Reasons to Print Money"
"Fastest and Most Furious"
"The Fast and the Fury"

and mine
"Furious Car Chases for Fast Money"
"The Fast and the Furious: Chattanooga Lightining"
"Fast Five: Tarzana Gold Rush"
"Speedy Six: Furiously Fabulous"
