Why Seth MacFarlane is tired of ‘Family Guy’

Did you know Seth MacFarlane had a big band album?

Believe it or not, “Family Guy” is not written by a tank of manatees pushing around idea balls. It is written by comedic genius Seth MacFarlane, who, after the show’s 200th episode and tenth season, admits that it might be time to bring it to a close.

“Part of me thinks that Family Guy should have already ended. I think seven seasons is about the right lifespan for a TV series,” MacFarlane told the Hollywood Reporter in a cover story this week. “I talk to the fans and in a way I’m kind of secretly hoping for them to say, ‘We’re done with it.’”

MacFarlane is the voice of several characters on the show and those who work with him say he is involved in its production at every level. That could have something to do with why he appears ready to move on. He has his hands in multiple projects, including “American Dad,” “The Cleveland Show,” “Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey,” an upcoming “The Flintstones” series and even a big-band album called “Music Is Better Than Words.”

While FOX doesn’t want “Family Guy” to end any more than the fans do, there is already a deal in place for a movie based on the Griffins. However, getting it to screen will be an issue of when MacFarlane has the time. But we’re sure that MacFarlane will find a way to write those during those 45 minutes each day he probably sleeps.
