12-12-12 Concert: The stars aligned [PHOTOS]

Nils Lofgren, Bruce Springsteen and Steven Van Zandt of The E Street Band perform at "12-12-12" a concert benefiting The Robin Hood Relief Fund.

Though the star-studded show is over, those wishing to donate money to relief efforts still can at www.121212concert.org.

One highlight of the evening was standing next to Katie Holmes and realizing how tall she is, which might be what “Saturday Night Live” star Jason Sudeikis was thinking in this photo. “SNL” cast members were mingling backstage with an enthusiasm that you might think would have diminished over time, as every week they rub elbows with musical guests and celebrity hosts. Also in attendance: Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen and Bobby Moynihan — the latter was hilariously in his full “Drunk Uncle” getup.

During the Rolling Stones set, Mick Jagger joked, “This has got to be the largest collection of old English musicians ever assembled in Madison Square Garden.” But not every celebrity fit into that category. Olivia Wilde and Sean Combs were both looking great at the show.

When the surviving members of Nirvana took the stage with Paul McCartney, it was heartening to watch seasoned journalists in the press room turn into wide-eyed teenagers at the sight of Dave Grohl wailing on a set of drums again.

“That was really weird,” E Street Band guitarist Little Steven, right, told Metro after playing a 30-minute opening set with Bruce Springsteen. “We haven’t played less than three hours ever!”

Sean Lennon played some air guitar.

“I think I actually stopped singing at one point to kiss him,” Roger Waters said of his performance with Eddie Vedder. Jon Bon Jovi had been similarly overwhelmed to share the stage with Bruce Springsteen earlier in the evening and showed the same affection toward the Boss.
