Ex Cops: Neighborhood beat
Ex Cops have a lot going for them. They have an excellent name and the camera is kind to the Brooklyn duo.
Production includes sound-bite samples of female megaphone and sirens up against 60s California guitar rock. Ex Cops is the perfect bicoastal sound for escaping winter. Dreamy pop floating over driving rhythms is candy on a gloomy day.
Listen to their latest track, James, from the forthcoming True Hallucinations as antidote to Christmas music. Or, if you’re feeling the holiday cheer, listen to the band improve upon Paul McCartney’s Wonderful Christmas Time.
Brian Harding and Amalie Bruun left indie rock bands and got Ex Cops up and patrolling their beat in 2011. In 2012 three friends round out the band to a five-piece.
Ex Cops released the EP White Women last year and their first full-length album drops January 22 on Other Music Recording Company.
I can’t wax poetic on Ex Cops, full disclosure, I have yet to see them live. This as a holiday gift, you rip open the wrapping.
Ex Cops play Glasslands January 22nd.
