Thursday gossip round-up: Ryan Gosling says Internet is a ‘minefield’

Hey girl. Are you scared of the Internet?

Ryan Gosling appreciates his heartthrob status, but that doesn’t
mean he has to understand it. “It’s strange. It has a dream-ish quality.
Like you’re in a dream where everybody knows you, but you don’t know
anyone,” he tells GQ Australia. It’s not all bad, of course: “I guess
the benefit is that it’s kept me off the Internet. At the end of the day
I think that’s probably for the best. It’s like a minefield for me.”

Lindsay Lohan‘s latest bid at a big-screen comeback is having trouble getting off the ground. Her racy and controversial film “The Canyons” was rejected by the Sundance Film Festival earlier this month, and now it appears the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas, wants nothing to do with the film either, according the Hollywood Reporter. Sources say the film suffers from significant “quality issues” and has “an ugliness and a deadness to it.”

Tom Cruise isn’t only the most famous Scientologist, he’s also the most important figure in the controversial religion. “There’s nobody more important in Scientology since L. Ron Hubbard. He’s the front of Scientology,” Lawrence Wright, author of the book “Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood and the Prison of Belief,” tells E! News. He also says having a movie star as the face of Scientology was always part of the plan. “From the very beginning of the Church of Scientology, they established it in Los Angeles, they created the Celebrity Center there in Hollywood, and the whole goal was to take over the entertainment industry and use celebrities as kind of a product endorsement for their brand,” Wright says.

Kristen Bell seemed to hint during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres that she’s going to give birth to a boy, but the “House of Lies” star kept coy with a “maybe” when pressed. Bell had said that fiancé Dax Shepard was looking forward to “all the off-roading he’ll have in this tiny partner,” but she says that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be a daughter. “Do you have to be a boy to off-road? Absolutely not!” Bell said. “I think he’s going to force [the baby], even if it’s a sloth, to off-road.” One thing Bell was willing to admit, though, is that she’s not looking forward to labor. “I’ve got nothing to prove” by having natural childbirth, she said. “I feel like, when I arrive at the hospital, I want a glass of whiskey, I want the epidural in my back and I want to get hit in the face with a baseball bat and wake me up when it’s over because I’ve seen the videos, and it looks terrifying.”

“Girls” creator and star Lena Dunham is no stranger to criticism, but now she’s going on the attack, chastising Rihanna for the messages the pop singer sends young fans with her behavior. “I just think about how many little girls beyond what I could even comprehend are obsessed with Rihanna,” Dunham tells Alec Baldwin during a chat for his “Here’s the Thing” podcast. “She left Barbados, she’s had this amazing career, she’s won a Grammy. She’s talented. And then she gets back together with Chris Brown and posts a million pictures of them smoking marijuana together on a bed. And it cracks my heart in half in a way that makes me feel like I’m 95 years old.”
