Zach Braff wants your money, has so much of his own

Rather than convincing studio executives to believe and invest in his project, “Garden State” director, Zach Braff, is taking to Kickstarter and asking his fans to fund his next project.

The new film is titled “Wish I Was Here” and it’s a sort of-sequel to “Garden State.”

“The story of Aidan Bloom (played by me), a struggling actor, father and husband, who at 35 is still trying to find his identity; a purpose for his life. He and his wife are barely getting by financially and Aidan passes his time by fantasizing about being a great futuristic Space-Knight he’d always dreamed he’d be as a kid,” he writes on the page.

Braff hopes to raise $2 million. The Kickstarter page has already collected approximately $1.6 million from more than 22,000 contributors.

The reason Braff is turning to his fans, is because the money people willing to invest in the film also want final cut and control of how the film is cast.

Braff doesn’t want people messing with his artistic vision, so has turned to his fans.

Being Kickstarter, contributors will get some sort of gift for they donation. For $10 donors will get a production diary each week through the summer’s shoot, for $100 you’ll be invited to advance film screenings and a Q&A, for $500 a video greeting from Braff, for $5,000 you’ll be Braff’s guest to an after party, and for a whopping $10,000 you’ll be cast in film.

A lot of people were outraged with Braff and his request for money. You see, Braff has a lot of money. He’s not Michael Bloomberg rich, but he’s got a lot of money in the bank – much more money than you and I have.

In an interview with the LA Times, Braff said, “People seem to think I have Oprah Winfrey money. I’ve done well in my career, but I am not sitting on $22 million.”
