All-male “hot, steamy” burlesque show opens at Revel in Atlantic City
He brought it to Hollywood. He brought it to Las Vegas. And now he’s bringing it to Atlantic City.
Starting July 17, Ivan Kane of Royal Jelly at Revel Casino Hotel will debut Le Male Burlesque, the city’s first all-male burlesque show.
“This thing is smokin’ hot,” says Kane, who helped put burlesque back on the map about a decade ago with the Forty Deuce clubs in Los Angeles and Sin City. Back then, his interests were all about “expanding the genre.” That included a swinging jazz trio burlesque show and a rock-and roll-performance.
“i just want to keep expanding,” Kane says. “Really the next thing that made sense for me was to do a male show.”
The choreographed strip tease features “amazing” dancers, Kane says. They were taught moves by Tovaris Wilson, who has worked on commercials, music videos and multiple Academy Awards shows and works on Kane’s Forty Deuce shows.
All-male burlesque is still an underground genre. It’s not quite as popular as Chippendales or other male strippers a la “Magic Mike.” Those type of shows are geared toward women and bachelorettes. But Kane’s show is made with the LGBT community in mind.
“And also women who want their nightlife a little out of the box and hot,” Kane adds.
Don’t just expect a straight-up burlesque show at Royal Jelly. The music, the lights, the choreography and the different kind of dancers (think go-go) all make the show one amazing, sexy experience.
“It pushes the envelope in terms of eroticism,” says Kane.
Despite Revel’s well-publicized financial issues, Royal Jelly is packed every night, says Kane.
“It’s wildly successfully beyond my dreams,” he says. “it’s just been a really fun ride.”
He’s hoping with this show, all-male burlesque will be successful on the East Coast.
“I’m in the business of throwing a party every night,” he says. “‘I think that what we’re doing is so unique. The crowds are flocking to see us.”
Le Male Burlesque is a special mid-week show, every Wednesday starting July 17. An invite-only sneak peek will take place July 10. And the drinks, cover and bottle prices are cheap. Special $4 you-call-it drinks are sold on the Go-Go Catwalk Lounge in front of the club from 8 to 10 p.m.
For a VIP experience during the show, there’s the “big package,”—pun intended. There are $125 bottles complete with a personal male go-go dancer.
