GIFs: Sochi revisits Olympic ring fail in closing ceremony
One of the most infamous moments of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi happened during an opening ceremony, when five snowflakes were supposed to blossom into Olympic rings. Unfortunately, one of them was a very late bloomer, leading to four rings and one little snowflake. The gaffe spawned t-shirts and many jokes, but Russia proved that it can join in on the fun and laugh with everyone else at the closing ceremony by revisiting the mistake.
A choreographed number featured people forming a swirl of Olympic rings, but one of them swirled into a closed ring.
It stayed closed for a while, begging the question: Would it ever open?
Ah, yes. A late bloomer, but still an Olympic hit. In Russia, rings open you!
