Boogie on over to the Rosebud

Each month the musician who calls himself Brendan Boogie releases an EP and plays a celebratory show at the Rosebud Bar in Davis Square with his band, the Best Intentions. For six months, he’ll repeat the process, which means that for half a year he’s dedicated to this cycle of create, release and play at the Rosebud. May brings the fourth such mini-album, “Fiction Memories,” and another show at this surprisingly large bar behind the classic Rosebud Diner car.
“Why am I doing this?” Boogie muses. “It’s the perfect project to satisfy both my short attention span and my near-constant need for attention. The EP project was my way of exploring different sides of my songwriting and having new recording experiences with a lot of talented people. I’ve never been great at musical monogamy.”
Each EP features different producers, collaborators and even styles, so there are a lot of variables in the equation. The constants are Boogie and the Rosebud. And the singer hopes to build clientele and fan base via the regular appearances, which the venue seems keen on also. In June, Boston rockers Muy Cansado take over the Rosebud stage with four consecutive shows.
Boogie, formerly of Boston power pop group Scamper, has played his fair share of clubs and this regular spot at the Rosebud is a favorite gig.
“The music community needs small independent venues like the Rosebud,”?he says. “There’s no middleman or corporate partner taking a cut of the musicians’ hard-earned money, or dictating what sort of music has to be played. ... It has very quickly become a second home to me.”
