[VIDEO] Moby invites indie and student filmmakers to use his music, for free

Heads up to penniless and student (and both) filmmakers out there: It’s good to know that not all rich and famous people are using the Internet to beg funds off us non-rich and famous people, in order to fund their projects. (We’re looking at you, Zach Braff.) Some celebrities, in fact, would like to help less monied artists than themselves bring their own projects to fruition.

Celebrities like Moby who, in a video posted yesterday to his site MobyGratis.com, invited aspiring indie, student, and otherwise less-than-financially flush filmmakers to dip into his catalog to soundtrack their films. The recording artist created the site back in 2008 to these ends and has just recently updated the site’s wealth of — totally free and up-for-grabs music — to include 150 cuts and previously unreleased tracks. Not just limited to feature-length films, Moby specified that his music is available to “anyone in need of free music for their independent, non-profit film, video or short.”

If you want to use his music in a commercial project, you’ll have to pay. However, Moby won’t pocket a penny. Instead, the well-known animal rights activist says, all proceeds he makes off of tracks bought for commercial projects will be donated in full to the Humane Society. Good man.
