ParanormalHoood ain’t afraid of no ghosts

Whether you’re a skeptic or you’re bummed out because you just spent millions of dollars on a mansion that turned out to be totally freaking haunted, the Halloween season presents an occasion for spooky discourse. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a dude who’s spent more time dwelling on metaphysical matters than Joe “Jiggy” Webb, ringleader of the ParanormalHood ghost hunter squad. We called him at his home in Medford, where he was recuperating from a long night of filming the squad’s ParanormalHood online reality show.

Do you find ghosts are more active on Halloween, or is it just like any other day for them?

Well, it’s funny you say that. We’re trying to set up a very interesting investigation. A lot of people are unaware of the day after Halloween — All Saints’ Day. We’re going to do an investigation that night to see how active things are. So I don’t really know [yet].

What about Christmas or Valentine’s Day?

I don’t think they necessarily pick a time or a day. I will say, in some cases, there are spirits that are almost on a residual loop. Like, they’re just doing the same thing over and over again because it was probably the last thing they were thinking about. I don’t even know if those are spirits. They might just be loops that somehow keep going. They’re stuck there, and somehow we can see them, or some people can see them.

What have you found to be the most densely haunted area in Boston?

I think Boston Common is an area with a lot of spirits who roam through, but you have to go outside of Boston to find some of the more haunted areas. Surprisingly enough, I don’t think [the most haunted place is] Salem. I’ve gotten vibrations of knowing something was different in some places, but I didn’t get that in Salem. I get that in areas like Brockton. Whatever happened out in Brockton … I don’t know if it was a burial ground or something. … But they weren’t supposed to build on that land.

What if everyone on the planet accepted the existence of ghosts as fact — how would society change?

If seven billion people all thought the same way, and we all said, “We’re all going to raise our vibrations. We’re all going to meditate,” at a certain time of day, because we’d all be willing to try to contact these things. … Imagine if you had seven billion minds focusing their energy to reach out to the other side. What would you be tapping into? Nobody knows everything in this field. Nobody has a Ph.D. in this. This is something where you’re constantly learning. So that’s a scary concept, because I don’t know what we’d be getting ourselves into.
