Amanda Knox gets $4 million book deal

Amanda Knox reportedly kept a diary while she spent four years in an Italian prison.

It’s been four months since Amanda Knox was released from an Italian prison and she already has a book deal.

HaperCollins came out on top in the stiff competition among publishing houses, offering Knox $4 million dollars in exchange for her memoir, according to The New York Times.

Knox was at the center of an international scandal that began in 2007 after she and her former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were charged in the brutal murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher. Knox and Kercher shared a flat while they studied abroad in Perugia, Italy. The sordid details of the case held the media’s fascination right up until Knox’s conviction was overturned in October.

Her memoir is expected to provide a look into her experience spending four years in an Italian prison and being sentenced to 26 years for a murder that she, and Sollecito, were eventually cleared of. Knox reportedly kept a diary while she was incarcerated.

Harper Jonathan Burnham offered this statement about the book deal to the AP:

No one has yet heard Amanda Knox’s own account of what happened, and this book will give Knox an opportunity to tell the story in full detail, for the first time. It will be the story of a crime and a trial, but also a moving account of a young woman’s struggle to cope with a nightmarish ordeal that placed her at the center of a media storm, and led to her imprisonment.

Sollecito is also reportedly looking into publishing his own memoir.
