‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ merchandise soon to hit shelves
“Fifty Shades of Grey” author E.L. James has recruited a UK-based company to develop products based on the racy best-selling novel that focuses on a college student who gives into her submissive side during her sexual escapades with an older man.
The “Fifty Shades” merchandise will likely include adult products made for women, fragrances, lingerie, beauty products, bedding, home furnishings, stationery and jewelry, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“The market’s interest in Fifty Shades of Grey as a brand is enormous. … We expect this property to make a very strong showing,” Caroline Mickler, whose company will develop the product line, said in a statement.
The book has booming popularity among young to middle-aged women and has been dubbed “mommy porn.” 13 million copies of the sultry novel have sold in the U.S. Focus Features has already bought movie rights to the story for $5 million.
