Adele, Amy Winehouse, The Script, Bruno Mars and Mumford & Sons are just a few of the artists VH1 has thought “you oughta know,” so the channel definitely has a knack of introducing viewers to buzzworthy musicians before they dominate the charts.

This year’s list includes HAIM, Lorde and JOHNNYSWIM, who performed in concert with special guests The Lumineers, Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande and Matt Nathanson. The concert special airs Thursday at 9 p.m., and since Metro was there to get in on the action, we’re spilling the top three moments:

Lorde and HAIM are now BFFs.

The 17-year-old New Zealander has been all over the radio for months — seriously, you really “oughta know” her by now — and her set definitely didn’t suck. Of course she sang “Royals,” but the teen also belted out “Team,” all while rocking insane platforms and dancing with quirky, jerking movements proving that though she is way more soulful than the average teen, she has not escaped her awkward phase. California sisters and trio HAIM also gave a stellar performance and, after singing “Forever,” Lorde joined them onstage for Sheryl Crow’s “Strong Enough.” Later in the show, the four were spotted laughing together. It totally makes sense that the coolest girls at the party would form a clique.

JOHNNYSWIM is the surprise outbreak of the show.

Before taking the stage, the crowd was all “Johnny what?” and “Let’s get to The Lumineers already,” but the (married) duo won the crowd over as soon as they started singing “Don’t Let It Get You Down.” Their bluesy-folk sound and strong vocals won the crowd over, who were clapping along by their second song.

“Ho Hey” is not old yet.

The Lumineers closed down the concert, debuting a new song and of course playing out the night with “Ho Hey.” Even if you’ve heard it a million times, you’ll want to tune in until the end when all the artists — except Ed Sheeran, whose performance was pretaped — join The Lumineers on stage and they all sing it together. It will give you tambourine-shaking goosebumps.

VH1′s “You Oughta Know” concert airs Nov. 21 at 9 p.m. EST.
