Could a leak ruin the red carpet for the Golden Globes?
These days when you hear something about a leak related to show business, you think it has something to do with an unreleased album or movie becoming available online against its creators’ will. Not so with the Golden Globes red carpet this year. This leak was the old-fashioned non-digital kind.
According to E! Online, a pipe burst at the Beverly Hilton, spraying water all over the red carpet where stars were supposed to begin their procession into the Golden Globe Awards.
The website reports that those who weren’t on platforms were escorted out of the area as a good one fifth of the carpet was ruined.
Ryan Seacrest, who often schmoozes with those stars who strut by, tweeted that the spill “could be bad for long gowns.”
But the leak could certainly be good for conversation, as those interviews are sometimes painful to watch when the stars don’t have anything interesting to talk about. It’s not that this type of leak is particularly interesting, but it will be interesting to see how many people tuning in mid-way through the pre-awards programming will think that the leak they are discussing is of the Julian Assange variety, and not of the “call the plumber” variety.
And there’s a good chance that Tina Fey and/or Amy Poehler will pick a celebrity to accuse of peeing on the carpet, if they haven’t already filmed a segment where they themselves pretend to be responsible for it. (See Poehler’s peeing in the sink joke from “Baby Mama.”)
