The Word: ‘Game of Thrones’ guys wrote an episode of ‘It’s Always Sunny’

“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” writer and star Rob McElhenney doesn’t let many outsiders get their mitts on his little show, but he did make one surprising exception: One episode next season will be written by “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

The two shows couldn’t be more different — one is about morally bankrupt characters struggling for power, the other is “Game of Thrones” — but apparently Benioff and Weiss are such big fans of “It’s Always Sunny” that McElhenney just had to give them a shot. “If ur wondering whether or not Benioff and Weiss wrote an episode of Sunny this year the answer is, of course, yes,” he tweeted.

I can’t wait to see the bar overrun by dragons.

“Game of Thrones” may not be HBO’s most popular show, but some might argue that it’s the cable network’s top show at the moment. The fantasy adventure about the men and women of the Seven Kingdoms and their quest for power has enthralled nerdy reader and pop culture enthusiast alike.

“It has proven to every media outlet that ‘geeks’ are people too, with populations, committed interests, deep passions and pocketbooks to match the rest of the world’s television consumers,” Vince Gerardis, co-executive producer for “Game of Thrones,” told Metro.
