The Word: Jessica Chastain was terrified to wear Elizabeth Taylor’s jewels

Jessica Chastain has shot to stardom this year, but she still doesn’t seem entirely comfortable with the perks that come with it. Jessica wore a diamond necklace that originally belonged to Elizabeth Taylor while walking the red carpet this week, but all she could think about was how much its fanciness terrified her.

Jessica wore the giant necklace at a 50th anniversary screening of “Cleopatra” sponsored by Bulgari, according to People. “I didn’t want to know how much it was worth,” Chastain said. “It was so thrilling to wear it, but I was overwhelmed too. It was a little scary. I was the first person to wear it since Elizabeth.”

I love Jessica Chastain, but “My diamonds are too expensive and famous!” is the ultimate white girl problem. What exactly is she afraid of? That she’ll drop them and they’ll break? That she’ll be so blinded by their glitter that she’ll steal them herself and embark on a new career as a jewel thief?

Seriously though, theft is a real concern at Cannes, especially this year. Perhaps lifting a page from the year’s most buzzed-about film, “The Bling Ring,” in which Emma Watson and her pals rip off Hollywood stars, a real thief broke into a Cannes hotel room and stole more than $1 million in Chopard jewelry, according to Deadline. Chopard is one of Cannes’ sponsors and the designer of the Palme d’Or prize, and the jewels were to be loaned to visiting stars when they walked the red carpet.
