The Word: Isla Fisher got snubbed by her own husband’s agent
Isla Fisher is doing all right for herself now. She’s married to comedy genius Sacha Baron Cohen, she’s starring in “The Great Gatsby,” and she has amazing Little Mermaid hair. But there was a time that she didn’t have any of that (except maybe the mermaid hair).
“I really have had no help. In fact, the one time I did ask for help was after my agent in L.A. fired me,” Isla told British Cosmopolitan.
Ouch. But plucky Isla didn’t give up — she just asked Sacha Baron Cohen, then her boyfriend, if his agent could represent her. Which, um, didn’t help. ”His agent said, ‘No way.’ It was the only favor I’d ever asked, and I was like, ‘OK… great.’ But it spurred me on.”
Bet that agent is kicking himself now; Isla’s career is going pretty well. She co-stars in the upcoming “Now You See Me” in addition to “The Great Gatsby,” which opened the Cannes film festival earlier this month.
