The Word: Lena Dunham’s not sure about Zosia Mamet’s Kickstarter
“Girls” star Zosia Mamet (Shoshanna) is jumping on the Kickstarter bandwagon. She and her half sister, Clara Mamet, who stars in “The Neighbors” on ABC, also comprise a band called the Cabin Sisters. They’re asking for $32,000 to complete a music video for one of theirs songs.
So far, it’s not going great — with nine days to go, they’ve got less than $2,000 pledged. Maybe that’s because the backlash against celebrity Kickstarters has hit hard since Zach Braff walked away with $2 million.
Or maybe it’s because even Zosia’s famous boss Lena Dunham seems a little befuddled by the idea. “Zosia is making a very un-Shosh like music video (with a little help from her friends) #cabinsisters,” she tweeted, then added, “That’s just to say, not sure about Kickstarter yet (though I do believe it can coexist w/ charity) but am sure I love my friend & coworker!”
That doesn’t mean Dunham’s an anti-Kickstarter hardliner. She actually dipped a toe in the crowdsourcing waters herself: “We did a spot of crowdsourcing for Tiny Furniture festival dues — there are still people I want to avoid because I forgot to send out prizes.”
No donor prizes? Doesn’t that mean that “Tiny Furniture” gets repossessed and Dunham has to start her career over? Pretty sure that’s in the Kickstarter fine print.
