Growing up in showbiz, Demi Lovato must have been precocious in a lot of ways. Unfortunately, depression was one of them.

Demi has struggled with depression since she was 7 years old, while starring on “Barney & Friends,” according to Us Weekly.

“The principal called my parents and made me sign this suicide contract saying that I would not kill myself,” Demi told Rolling Stone. “They weren’t expecting that so young.”

Demi, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder as a teen, says her parents supported her decision to go to rehab and get the help she needed. ”Celebrities do have luxurious options, but my parents were like, ‘No, you’re going to learn something,’” she said.

It’s been three years since her brief romance with Joe Jonas, but Demi Lovato is still thinking about it.

“We were in a relationship and we broke up, and at one point I was really mad at him,” she tells ABC’s Nightline. “When you go through heartbreaks and things like that, you always have in mind somebody. It’s like when you hear a song on the radio that reminds you of somebody, you’re going to be reminded. But keeping that in mind… it’s a delicate balance.”
