What would the Upper East Side think?

“Gossip Girl” star Kelly Rutherford, who played Serena’s mom Lily Van der Woodsen on the show, wouldn’t fit in so well with its snobbish characters these days: She’s just filed for bankruptcy.

Kelly was locked in a long divorce and custody battle with her husband, German businessman Daniel Giersch, which apparently drained her finances. She spent almost $1.5 million on legal fees, according to People, and she also owes $350,000 in back taxes and has a $25,000 credit card bill. Yikes.

Giersch is barred from re-entering the U.S. because he overstayed an expired visa, so their children Helena and Hermes currently live with him, with Kelly traveling back and forth to visit them in Monaco.

Kelly’s not the only former GG star with a rocky home life these days. “Gossip Girl” star Penn Badgley, who played her stepson Dan Humphrey on the show, and Zoe Kravitz have reportedly called it quits after nearly two years of dating, according to Us Weekly. “It is all good between them. It wasn’t a sad breakup,” a source says. “It just wasn’t working. It really did end on good terms, though. They are at two different stages in their careers. They just didn’t have time for each other.”
