The Word: Offensive photo of Kate Gosselin emerges

Kate Gosselin seems to have her own racist controversy after this photo was posted on Twitter.
Kate Gosselin seems to have her own racist controversy after this photo was posted on Twitter.

Kate Plus 8 Plus 1 Potentially Offensive Tweet.

A picture emerged on Twitter on Monday of Kate Gosselin in some sort of black cap, possibly intended to be a geisha wig, and pulling the corners of her eyes with her fingers.

@Kateplusmy8 Makes fun of Asians with 8 half Korean children,” Twitter user Katie Deen tweeted when she released the photo.

Kate’s wearing her wedding ring in the photo, which suggests that it was taken in 2009 or earlier, while she was still married to Jon Gosselin. This is also the only tweet by Katie Deen, suggesting that the account was created specifically to release the photo. So is the name “Katie Deen” meant to equate Kate’s faux pas with Paula Deen’s recent race troubles? Only time will tell. And since this involves the Gosselins, I’m sure it will.

Celebrity chef Paula Deen, who was dropped by TV’s Food Network after she admitted in a lawsuit that she used a racial slur in the past, will appear on NBC’s “Today” show on Wednesday after canceling a scheduled interview last week.

The program’s anchor, Matt Lauer, said on Monday’s show that Deen “told us she will be here this time.”

Deen, who withdrew from an interview on June 21, tweeted, “See you Wednesday, I am so glad Matt, Al and my friends at @TodayShow are bringing me back.”

The program did not say if Deen would address the controversy.
