The Word: Matt Damon is too famous to buy a house in NYC

You guys, Matt Damon is leaving us. He and his family are pulling up stakes for Los Angeles, where they’ve bought a house down the street from Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner. And he says it’s all our fault.

Damon has resided in Manhattan with his wife and four children for several years, and he says they would like nothing better than to settle down permanently in the Big Apple. But he can’t, because real estate brokers use his fame against him. “We tried to find a place for four years and couldn’t find one. We made five offers, and we had two places where we had a verbal agreement, the last of which I absolutely loved. And in both cases, they used my name to sell to someone else. In a lot of transactional situations, fame is a good thing — people are much nicer to you. But in this case, it worked against me. Or maybe people think I’m an actor, so I must be stupid,” the actor told Esquire.

Is that a thing that works in the New York market? Let me give it a try. Anyone want to buy a wobbly futon with a Pad Thai stain? George Clooney is extremely interested.
