The Word: Randy Travis has heart surgery
Randy Travis’s doctors have operated on his heart, according to his sister-in-law Teresa Traywick.
Apparently heart disease is common in Randy’s family, unfortunately. “We have been told he has had surgery,” Ms. Traywick, who’s married to Randy’s brother Ricky Traywick, told People. “Our prayers are going out to him because my husband just had a heart attack last year, so [heart disease] is in their family.”
The country star is suffering from cardiomyopathy, a weakening of the heart muscle due to infection, according to his representative.
Friends and colleagues offered their best wishes for Travis’s recovery. Nell Scovell, creator of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, tweeted, “Feel better Randy Travis! (He guest starred on Sabrina the Teenage Witch because I was such a huge fan.)”
Country music legend Randy Travis is in critical condition in a Texas hospital because of complications from a virus, the singer’s publicist said on Monday.
Travis, 54, one of country music’s best-selling artists who had a string of hits in the 1980s, is suffering from viral cardiomyopathy, which he recently acquired, Travis’ publicist said in a statement.
