The Word: Ryan Reynolds stepped through a dead horse

Ryan Reynolds may be a huge manly man action star, but he is also Canadian. Maybe that’s why he always seems so eager in interviews to dispel any matinee idol mystique. Or maybe he just thinks getting covered in horse guts is funny.

The actor was riding his motorcycle in Wyoming when he made the acquaintance of his dead horse friend. “I pulled over by the side of this ravine to take a piss. And when I jumped down into it, I put my feet through something incredibly squishy. It felt like I’d jumped into a vat of old watermelons, and it just smelled like the worst place you could ever imagine,” he told Esquire. Turned out, he’d jumped straight down onto the corpse of a horse that had expired several weeks previously.

Ryan’s horror aside, this begs a major question: Who leaves a dead horse by the side of the road? I’m a city girl who loves horses from afar, so I don’t really know the protocol for such things, but I imagine it involves a horse graveyard and a 21-gun salute.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds tied the knot last year in South Carolina after almost a year of dating, according to People magazine. The traditional, family-filled ceremony was successfully kept off the radar, with no reports of the nuptials leaking until after the fact. The wedding took place Sunday evening at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., just outside of Charleston, with the reception held in a white tent on the plantation. Florence + the Machine singer Florence Welch performed a few songs and took a turn as the wedding DJ, according to the magazine. This is the first marriage for Lively and the second for Reynolds, who was previously married to Scarlett Johansson.
