The Word: When will the royal baby leave the hospital?

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM - JUNE 15: (EMBARGOED FOR PUBLICATION IN UK NEWSPAPERS UNTIL 48 HOURS AFTER CREATE DATE AND TIME) Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William, Duke of Cambridge stand on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during the annual Trooping the Colour Ceremony on June 15, 2013 in London, England. Today's ceremony which marks the Queen's official birthday will not be attended by Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh as he recuperates from abdominal surgery. This will also be The Duchess of Cambridge's last public engagement before her baby is due to be born next month. (Photo by Max Mumby/Indigo/Getty Images)

Kate Middleton and Prince William had their baby! Maybe. I haven’t seen any proof, have you? The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge could have been just hanging out in that cool maternity wing for the last day and a half because they’re super into ice chips. Pics or it didn’t happen.

Royal watchers won’t be satisfied until they actually lay eyes on the royal baby, the newest member of the line of succession. And they may not have long to wait — Kate and William may leave the hospital as early as 6 p.m. London time, according to People. Since Kate’s hairstylist was already spotted entering the hospital, it seems like a good bet that the new mum is bouncing back nicely.

They may, on the other hand, remain in the hospital until tomorrow morning, or, if they wish to torture the press corps camped outside, forever.

From live TV coverage of a hospital door to a gaggle of royal baby experts, the world’s media was in a frenzy Monday over the arrival of the future heir to the British throne, offering moment-by-moment coverage if very little actual news.

For three weeks photographers from across the globe have been camped outside St. Mary’s Hospital in west London waiting for the arrival of Prince William and his wife Kate’s first child, who will be third in line to the throne.
