Anthony Bourdain is playing a dangerous game.

The celebrity chef subbed for Piers Morgan on CNN, and he asked David Simon, creator of “The Wire,” to appear for a segment on addiction. Simon doesn’t usually do talking heads, but, he writes on his blog, his old friend offered him a special enticement: cronuts.

Simon schlepped up from Baltimore and he and the New York Times’ David Carr did the segment, but afterward there was nary a hybrid pastry to be found. When Carr demanded his cronut fee, a producer admitted they only had enough for the audience.

”My agent negotiated a cronut. I say this with all sincerity: I am here for the cronut,” Simon says Carr announced.

Eventually, a handler scared up a quarter of a cronut for the men to share between them, but Simon is far from satisfied. “Tony Bourdain, you lying sonofab–, you owe me a motherf–ing cronut,” he declared.

Hey, that sucks, but these guys are rich and famous. Their lack of cronut access is nothing compared to us plebes. We are the 99 percent. Let us eat cronuts.
