Welcome to New York, Maria Menounos. Watch out for the overly possessive elevators.

The “Extra” host is in NYC this week to guest host “Live with Kelly and Michael.” She was in a midtown office building for a meeting with her PR reps when the elevator she was riding refused to open. Menounos and another male passenger were trapped for 20 minutes, according to Page Six.

Building staff soon arrived to rescue the trapped passengers, and Menounos helped pry open the doors to clear the way to freedom. No word on whether Menounos delivered any babies, had any long talks about the state of her relationship, or met the devil while she was in there.

Women may soon be emulating Menounos’s elevator-prying arm strength – they’re already going under the knife to get arms like Kelly Ripa’s.

Doctors noticed a significant increase in upper-arm lifts last year, also known as brachioplasties. The procedures involve an incision from the armpit to the elbow to remove extra fat and skin. Brachioplasties has increated 4,378 percent since 2000.

The L.A. Times reports:

“In a statement, the ASPS said that doctors didn’t point to a single reason for the increase, but took note of poll data indicating that women “are paying closer attention to the arms of female celebrities” including Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore and Kelly Ripa. The most-admired arms of all? Those of First Lady Michelle Obama.”
