The Word: Simon Cowell refuses to watch his baby’s birth

Simon Cowell is staying out of the delivery room, thank you very much indeed.

Simon Cowell isn’t going to be one of those soft, namby-pamby modern dads who actually shows up to support his partner in the delivery room.

“Are you out of your mind?” Cowell told Ryan Seacrest in a radio interview when Seacrest asked if he’d be there for the delivery. ”I know this sounds awful, but it’s like, you don’t want to go in to the restaurant while they’re making your dinner. I think there are certain things you shouldn’t see and that is one of them. I’ll be very close by, but no.”

Simon does know she won’t be making the baby on the spot, right? It’s more like taking your dinner out of a somewhat traumatized microwave.

Simon wouldn’t confirm the baby’s gender, but he hinted that he’s having a boy. Either way, he’ll make sure the baby inherits both his accent and his attitude. “Obviously, I would have to make sure the baby has an English accent. … I said to Lauren, ‘What if I just play me on tape while the baby is sleeping so the baby can hear me and have a British accent and his first words will be, ‘You’re absolutely useless!’”

They might be, if he hears about this delivery room thing.
