The Word: The songs you’ll remember from the ‘Breaking Bad’ finale

“Breaking Bad” drew to a close last night, which is why your Facebook feed is full of grief and insanity and hashtags about meth.

The iconic show featured memorable songs in its finale, and like the finale of “The Sopranos” and “Don’t Stop Believing,” they’ll be forever associate with the show. Here they are for your listening pleasure, or non-listening if you consider the soundtrack to be a spoiler (someone in my household just insisted I put on headphones to write this post).

The episode was called “Felina” and featured Marty Robbins’ song “Feleena,” a long folksy storytelling song about a Mexican femme fatale. Presumably, the spelling was changed because “Felina” is an anagram of finale. Always keeping us on our toes, that Vince Gilligan.

And then the true “Don’t Stop Believing” moment: “Baby Blue,” by Badfinger, which played over Walter White’s final scene. Goodbye, Walter. Goodbye, crystal blue meth. Goodbye, “Breaking Bad.”

Whether things went down as you’d hoped or not, I think we can all agree that the series finale was a lot more satisfying than the deliberately infuriating final scene of “The Sopranos.” Show creator Vince Gilligan says that finality was deliberate. “We went through a lot of false starts and endings that went nowhere, but we knew we needed to dot all the Is and cross all the Ts,” he said on last night’s behind the scenes show, “Talking Bad.”
