Fun fact about “Breaking Bad”‘s epic pop-up machine gun from Sunday’s finale: When it was introduced in a flash-forward earlier in the season, the writers didn’t know who Walt would target with it.

“I have to admit, when we first planted the seed of this M-60 machine gun, we didn’t know a) how it was going to be used, or b) who it was going to be used on,” Gilligan admits in the below behind-the-scenes video. “Uncle Jack didn’t even really exist at that point.”

Unlike most TV writers rooms that try to make up mythology as they go along — ahem, “Lost” — “Breaking Bad”‘s fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants style still led to a very satisfying finale. Or maybe you just can’t go wrong with a deadly jack-in-the-box machine gun in the trunk of a car. Below, the crew explains how you shoot a machine gun massacre without, you know, actually shooting anyone.

“Breaking Bad” featured several memorable songs in its finale, and like the finale of “The Sopranos” and “Don’t Stop Believing,” they’ll be forever associate with the iconic show. Here they are for your listening pleasure, or non-listening if you consider the soundtrack to be a spoiler.
