The Word: Miley Cyrus explains the tongue thing in her ‘SNL’ promo

Why does Miley Cyrus keep sticking out her tongue? “It’s how I smell,” she explains to Taran Killam.

“Like a snake?”

“Yeah.”

That’s her, uh, tongue-in-cheek explanation, anyway — she and the “Saturday Night Live” star are clowning around in these quick bits to promote her appearance on the sketch comedy show this weekend. She’ll pull double duty, both as host and musical guest. That’s a pretty rarefied club to join, but probably smart on the show’s part: If you’ve got Miley, you have to put her in a VMAs sketch, but you’ve also got to let her perform her music so you’ll have something to make fun of the next week.

SNL better watch out when Miley comes around, though: In the outtakes from her Rolling Stone interview, Miley compared herself to Sinead O’Connor (I’m sure Sinead would appreciate that) and said that she is partially personally responsible for starting forest fires in L.A. (I’m sure Smokey the Bear would not appreciate that). Since Sinead once tore up a picture of the pope on SNL, I bet Lorne Michaels will have his hand poised on the “cut to commercial” button.
