The Word: Diablo Cody’s college crush begged her for a job

Diablo Cody has some harsh advice for aspiring screenwriters. “You will be a big deal for about 10 seconds,” she tells Vulture. “Since I ‘broke through’ (ugh) six years ago, countless younger, funnier, smarter writers have flocked to Hollywood and TOOK MY JERB. That’s the nature of this business.”

However, a glittery showbiz career does have its perks: You get to gloat wildly when people who wouldn’t give you the time of day turn up looking for a foot in the door. “The guy who refused to date you in college comes asking for a job,” she says. ”The best.”

Ooh. I wonder whether Diablo helped him or laughed in his face and sent him packing. Also I wonder how many people who have asked her for career help are now wondering if that’s about them. We’ll probably never know — one of her other gems of wisdom is “Don’t talk s— about anyone.”

The “Juno” scribe’s directorial debut “Paradise” opens next week. Starring Julianne Hough and Russell Brand, it’s the story of a pious woman who goes to Las Vegas to find the sin she’s been missing out on.
