The Word: Kanye West’s angry acceptance of Jimmy Kimmel’s apology

Kanye West appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s show last night to talk through their differences — they recently got in a Twitter spat over a sketch in which Kimmel had a child re-enact Kanye’s interview.

What Kimmel wanted, it seemed, was to apologize and make things right. What Kanye wanted, as always, was less clear but lengthy.

I don’t know what to even do with it. It’s not so much an interview as a lengthy list of stuff that’s currently bothering Kanye. I could pull quotes — Kanye saying we “treat celebrities like zoo animals;” Kanye comparing Michael Jackson’s early struggles as a black artist to get his videos on MTV to his own struggles to manufacture leather jogging pants; Kanye explaining “I wouldn’t even say I’m a rapper, I would say I’m more of a messenger;” Jimmy Kimmel showing an incredibly adorable picture of his dad and Kanye; Kanye repeatedly calling himself a genius; Kanye calling out the Hollywood Walk of Fame for dissing his girlfriend because “There’s no way a Kim Kardashian shouldn’t have a star on the Walk of Fame;” and on, and on — well, look at that, I did pull quotes.

So what’s my play here, guys? Do I side with Kanye, who has some decent points about Hollywood’s condescension and our rabid celebrity culture? Do I mock his lengthy rant and many run-on sentences? Tell you what, watch the whole thing and get back to me. The first video is below, the rest are on Hulu. It’s four separate videos. Carve out some time. Your boss will understand.
