The Word: ‘Scandal’ star Joshua Malina was Olivia Pope for Halloween

“Scandal” star Joshua Malina was on Jimmy Kimmel’s show last night, and his work followed him in his choice of Halloween costume. Malina, who plays snoop David Rosen on the show, dressed up as “Scandal” lead character Olivia Pope.

I imagine many of you are clenching up right now — those who are aware that Malina is a white dude, and Olivia Pope is played by Kerry Washington, an African-American woman. Don’t worry, Malina didn’t “go full Julianne Hough,” as he put it. At worst, his foundation is a shade too dark. But what guy knows what foundation to use?

Check out Malina’s costume below. He nailed his costar’s power suit, I’d say, but his initial attempt to mimic her lip-quiver of emotion looks more like he’s got too much chewing gum in his mouth.

It’s good he avoided going the Hough route: The “Dancing with the Stars” celebrity went out to the Casamigos Tequila Halloween Party in Los Angeles on Friday night dressed as the black character Crazy Eyes from the hit Netflix series, complete with a darkened complexion. The 25-year-old actress and dancer received a flurry of criticism after photos of her Halloween costume were posted on gossip websites, and she has since apologized.
