The Word: Is ‘Glee’ prepping a Lea Michele spinoff?

“Glee” is not long for this world. Next season will be its last, which makes sense, since all the original characters will have graduated by then. But some “Glee” faves are already well-positioned to break free of the high school format: namely Rachel, who’s been in New York launching her theater career since last season.

Is it possible that “Glee” could ditch its vestigial high school sets and live on as “The Rachel Berry Show”? Very possible, according to Radar, which claims that “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy is working to launch a Lea Michele spinoff vehicle.

“They’re making the deals now and it also presents a viable exit plan for the main ‘Glee’ series itself — in that some of its core cast would also migrate to the Lea Michele project as ‘Glee’ is showing signs of aging,” a source says.

I wonder what cast members would make the jump. Chris Colfer and Naya Rivera are already New York-based — but Murphy is reportedly considering shipping Chris to Russia.

“We are mulling around the idea of moving Kurt (Chris Colfer) to Russia,” a “Glee” source tells E! Online. No word on what his storyline would be, but since gay rights are under siege in Russia, that seems a likely motivation for the move, and wow, does that seem like a bad idea. I applaud “Glee”‘s willingness to tackle tough issues unironically, but human rights crises generally don’t get solved with jazz hands.
