Spoiler alert for “Gravity”: If you haven’t seen it yet, this film will reveal a major plot point. But honestly, if you haven’t seen “Gravity” we’re not friends anymore. Go see it right now. I know you just got to work but this is important. Your boss agrees with me. Drive as far as you have to for a theatre that still has it in IMAX 3D (I know, but it’s worth it for this one) and watch “Gravity.” Join your generation.

Are you back? Good. Yeah, it’s great. You know that scene where Sandra Bullock tries to contact mission control but the radio instead reaches a civilian who doesn’t speak English? Well, Jonas Cuaron, son of “Gravity” director Alfonso Cuaron and co-author of the screenplay, made an entire short film about that guy. Titled “Aningaaq,” it introduces the Greenland man who hears her distress call and allows us to see his side of the conversation. He tells her about his sick sled dog and how he’d like to save her, and sings a lullaby to his baby and to “May Day,” which is what he thinks Sandra Bullock’s character is named.

You can watch the whole thing below. The short was initially just intended to be a Blu-ray extra, but since it came out so well it’s gathering Oscar buzz for Best Short Film in its own right. If “Gravity” also wins, would this be the first father-son Oscars in the same year?
