People are still talking about Jessica Simpson’s mom jeans
Sure, celebrities have wealth, looks, prestige and never have to stand in line for a new iPhone, but sometimes being famous isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. Because maybe, one day, you will do something innocuous like wear an ill-fitting pair of jeans for a few hours. And then like a kind of denim herpes, those jeans will haunt you for the rest of your life.
Case in point, Jessica Simpson, who donned this pair of jeans at a concert in 2009. 2009! Yet we as a society are still talking about it. Not only are we still talking about it, but an entire episode of “Oprah” revolved these jeans in 2010. Jeans that don’t look that terrible.
And poor Simpson was asked about them yet again in this month’s cover story for Redbook. “What’s so unbelievable is that I was probably at least 15 pounds smaller than I am right now,” she said. “What’s more unbelievable is that the press could create something like that out of a pair of jeans…what woman wants to be brought down for wearing a pair of jeans?”
Is there something about these jeans that I don’t know about? Are they culpable in the genocide of an entire race of people? Did they beat someone and then leave them to die in the cold? Did they invent reality TV?
Please, we should go back to asking Jessica Simpson the questions that really matter — like, what’s up with her weight. [Ed. note: I wrote that in jest but then I saw that Redbook did. This world, man.]
“I think any woman who is pregnant and creating a life is pretty much entitled to eat whatever she wants as long as she’s healthy,” she said, when asked if the constant criticism about her weight bothered her (btw, Jessica Simpson also happens to be a mother of two, small children while overseeing a fashion line which is poised to bring in a billion dollars — but let’s not ask her about that.) “I wasn’t going to let the media take away from what was one of the happiest times in my life.”
