The future of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s work

Look at Philip Seymour Hoffman’s IMDb bio and you’ll see not only a tremendously accomplished actor, but also a very prolific one – the veteran character actor has 63 credits to his name. Naturally, that includes several that are still in production. In the wake of his sudden death on Sunday, that leaves producers with some difficult, sad decisions to make about whether to recast, cancel, or move forward with what they have.

One role of Hoffman’s that will sadly probably never see the light of day is the Showtime television drama “Happyish.” In his first regular television role, Hoffman starred as Thom Payne, an ad executive given the “gift of insignificance” on his birthday.

“It is hard to imagine a way in which it could go on,” a source told E! Online. “His role would have to be recast and there weren’t any other actors in serious consideration aside from Philip. If the show does move forward, the premiere would be delayed as pilot would need to be reshot.”

Philip Seymour Hoffman’s work in the “Hunger Games” sounds like a more complicated problem. His role as Plutarch Heavensbee is small but crucial, and with “Mockingjay” parts 1 and 2 still in production, rewrites could be required. According to E! Online, Hoffman’s work on “Mockingjay: Part 1″ was “substantially complete,” but he still had 7 days left to shoot on part 2.
