Anita Baker is wanted by the police

Singer Anita Baker is a wanted woman. Don’t worry, she didn’t knock over a bank or anything — she’s just involved in the world’s worst contractor dispute.

Police in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, where Baker resides on a sprawling estate, issued a warrant for her arrest due to her allegedly unpaid bills, according to Click On Detroit. Ray Smith Painting and Decorating claims she owes the company more than $15,000 for work done on her home and that she is refusing to pay.

“We’re not trying to give her a hard time or anything unneccessary. We would just like to collect the money for my client. He’s owed the money, and that could end it all right then,” said Daniel Gerow, the attorney for the decorating business.

Attorneys for the “Sweet Love” singer claim that Baker’s not to blame — her attorney, Jamal Hamood, says that the contractors’ initial lawsuit was dismissed, and Baker only learned that they’d refiled it when the arrest warrant was issued.
