New photos of Kurt Cobain’s suicide scene released by Seattle police

Kurt Cobain On 'MTV Unplugged'

Twenty years after Kurt Cobain’s death, Seattle police have release new photos of the crime scene.

Thankfully, they’re not photos of Cobain’s body, just some of his stuff. The photos show a cigar box full of drug paraphernalia, a pair of sunglasses and a wad of cash.

Seattle police re-examined the evidence in Cobain’s suicide because they knew there would be questions around the 20th anniversary — not, contrary to rumors, because they’re reopening the case.

“There was nothing earth-shattering in any of these images,” police spokeswoman Renee Witt said, according to ABC News. “The detective went into the case files to refresh himself. The outcome of the case has not changed.”

The new images come from a cache of undeveloped film discovered during the review of the case. Police also clarified that they absolutely would not release any new photos of Cobain’s body, for which I am grateful because then I would have to look at them for my job.

The seminal ’90s rocker died after taking a massive, probably fatal, dose of heroin and then shooting himself in the head with a shotgun. Cobain’s body was found by an electrical worker at his Lake Washington home on April 8, 1994. The medical examiner assigned to the case determined Cobain’s death to be a suicide.
