Dave Brubeck’s oratorio, “The Light in the Wilderness”
In 1967 jazz great Dave Brubeck broke up his famous quartet to fulfill his ambitions as a composer of music for the concert hall. In the following year, the fascinating The Light in the Wilderness became the first oratorio penned by Brubeck. The 74th season of Masterworks Chorale concludes with acclaimed baritone Philip Lima joining conductor Steven Karidoyanes, the Masterworks chorus, and an instrumental ensemble complete with jazz combo in a rare performance of this dramatic music.
